As promised, pics! She's finally settled into a schedule of sorts (up every 3 hours or so needing a diaper change, milk, and a bit of company), and I'm tapping this out at 5:34AM because she's just gone down and I may as well stay up til breakfast.
These were taken on her actual birthday.
3 days old and asleep on a pillow on my lap.
She's asleep most of the time, but she doesn't fuss much when she is awake. (So far, anyway.) She's just alert and observing, which I find absolutely adorable.
We'll be leaving the hospital on Sunday, and I'll certainly miss all the awesome food here! This was dinner a couple days ago: fish croquettes, consommé soup, somen noodles with eggplant, baby corn and tomato in an olive oil/tomato sauce, "new" onion salad, and yamaimo niimono with rice (and apples for dessert). The drink is always the same though, bancha, a type of grain based tea.
I'm pretty much fully functional again- I can get up out of bed without pain now (although i'm still on pain meds) and take care of all her needs and mine. Still, I'm glad we have the whole week here to learn the ropes (had a baby bathing lesson yesterday, and have had constant lactation support) and heal up before going home. Some of my friends in Canada had C-sections as well, and were sent home after two days! I could barely turn onto my side in bed at that stage, nonetheless take care of a newborn! I can't imagine how they managed without serious help from friends and family. So while I think free Medicare is awesome, there are obvious downsides to being entitled to only basic care.
Ok, trying the cut now! Now all of you have to comment on the supreme cuteness of my offspring.

That pisture of Akari with her eyes open is just adorable and I'm glad to hear you're healing up well; my mam said it sucks when you're sent home after two days. She had two emergency C-section; one on me and Ren and then with the younges bro.
But you're so lucky that you'll be going home together - she had to leave me and Ren in hospital for four months.
Yadayadayada ... *looks at Akari again* she's just too adorable Nrg!!!
Your poor mom! And you guys were in hospital a loong time! You guys were born at 32 weeks, right? Did she just go into labour early with you?
How are you and Akari doing? Did your husband help with the nappies yet? Or is diapers you call them? XD
We're good- so much easier to get a good night's sleep at home- despite the interruptions for diaper changes and midnight feedings! I feel soooo refreshed this morning.
My husband was helping me change diapers this weekend at the hospital. :) So last night his mom was pleasantly surprised when he volunteered to change her diaper while I was trying to catch up on my inbox ("You have 91 new messages."). His dad is so traditional that he can't even cook, and would NEVER volunteer for diaper duty!
And yes, I say diaper! Nappies sound like the short sleeps we take in the afternoon. :P
It's great when you get the baby home; bring on the formation of some kind of routine, lol!! :D
Thanks so much for sharing the pictures of your adorable daughter. :)
Actually, I take the schedule thing back: that was only that one day, apparently. She has been doing irregular stretches for the last couple of days. The half hour stetches are the hardest, especially since she always does them in the wee hours! I get so worried that I'll fall asleep on her while trying to nurse her to sleep.
*cuteness overload*
The picture of her feet is adorable; I wanna do that with my babies! And the picture with her eyes open...precious! It's nice to hear that you're at a great hospital and resting up. You need all the rest you can get now! ;)
The printing thing was a gift from the hospital. I had no idea there was so much swag involved with giving birth at a private hospital! Score! XD

The first kanji in her name means bright, future, and comprehension; the second is a kind of jasmine. We tried to choose a name that could be read in both Japanese and Cantonese, and also didn't sound weird in either. (e.g. One kanji version of Akari sounds like the word "celebrity" in Cantonese.)
And uh... wow. For hospital food, that's so amazing. o.o
DA
Yeah, when we had the pre-natal lessons one of the other pregnant ladies said she chose this hospital because her friend said it had good food. XD
That food looks pretty good. Is it a cultural thing, having smaller portions of a few things, or using a number of plates? Meals around my house are usually a big heaping on a single plate xD *is curious*
Anyways, best wishes to you ion the coming days. I hope you will be reasonable well rested. Take care of yourself, too!
Yeah, when I was growing up we also did the one meal one plate thing. :) I think the multi-dish thing is cultural- Chinese and Japanese base their meals off of rice, so they have other dishes that "go with" the rice. But I think the Japanese have an especial fondness for teensy dishes of food. It makes the meal prettier, and sets apart different flavours and textures, etc.
She's one of the cutest babies I've seen. Best of luck to all of you. :)

AWWWWWWWWWWW!!!
Ok, I'm done. ^_^
Thanks!
I'm very happy for you! And, on a completely different note, your hospital food looks a hell of a lot better than all the hospital food I've had the misfortune to be faced with in my life... *sighs*
Yeah, it was the best hospital food I've ever had, too! Seriously, on Saturday the main dish at lunch was a lamb steak. My favourite main was the Nasi goreng we got for dinner one night though. :D
EDIT: And Happy belated Birthday!
